NCHR concludes capacity building workshop in Fayoum

Within the scope of the National Human Rights Council’s educational and capacity-building mandate, and adhering to the National Human Rights Strategy, the NCHR’s Training and Capacity Building Committee successfully completed its second session on ‘Human Rights Fundamentals’. This course was designed for staff from human rights divisions and service departments in Fayoum Governorate, and was conducted with the European Union’s support.

Mr. Essam Shiha, a Council member and Chairman of the Training and Capacity Building Committee, inaugurated the training course. He emphasized the need to amplify national initiatives for capacity building and training within the state’s administrative framework. This effort aims to advance the human rights agenda and establish enduring partnerships with line ministries and governmental bodies nationwide. The ultimate aim is to foster and enhance the awareness and practice of human rights culture.

The three-day training session, spanning from February 27 to February 29, 2024, encompassed a comprehensive curriculum that included:

● An overview of the Council and its functions

● The fundamentals of human rights and their historical roots

● The International Human Rights Charter

● Global and domestic frameworks for safeguarding human rights

● The representation of human rights within the Egyptian constitution

● The National Human Rights Strategy

● The Sustainable Development Goals aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030

● The function of human rights divisions

The training course was aimed at introducing participants to the basic concepts of human rights that have become an integral part of their work and to qualify them to play their role in achieving the goals of the National Human Rights Strategy and Egypt Vision 2030.
