Journalists participate in a round table by National Council for Human Rights on the National Strategy

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) held a round table entitled "The Role of the Media on Inteoducing and Socially Disseminating the National Strategy for Human Rights", as part of the activities of the project "Supporting Efforts to Enhance Political Participation and Democracy Mechanisms in Egypt", which is implemented by NCHR in cooperation with the Swiss Embassy in the context of promoting awareness and introducing the National Strategy for Human Rights.

A group of writers, journalists, media figures, and experts specialized in the field of Human Rights participated in the table.

The work of the round table began with an introductory session, moderated by Dr. Magdy Abdel Hamid, Project Director, during which Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Karem, Vice President of the NCHR, spoke, indicating that NCHR believes that the success of the strategy in achieving its targeted results will only be achieved effectively through the continuation of the participatory approach that follow up at the stage of preparing the document, in the process of follow-up, evaluation and implementation as well as in cooperation between the concerned authorities.

Also speaking during the session were Mr. George Izhaq, Chairman of NCHR Civil and Political Rights Committee, and Mr. Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat, member of NCHR and the Civil and Political Rights Committee.

  The first session was moderated by journalist writer Hisham Younis, and dealt with the media professionals’ vision of the National Strategy for Human Rights, where the participants discussed the evaluation of the strategy in the first year to stand on common ground between the various visions and political, intellectual and cultural currents in order to reach specific recommendations that can be submitted to state institutions regarding the implementation of the strategy in the few years coming.

The second session, which was moderated by Dr. Amani Al-Taweel, advisor to Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, dealt with the formulation of proposals and ideas on the role of the media in disseminating the National Strategy for Human Rights.
