NCHR and National Elections Authority Partner to Launch Program Enhancing Political Participation and Electoral Awareness

In line with the National Council for Human Rights’ mandate to promote political participation and democratic awareness, and grounded in its belief in the importance of fostering a sustainable societal consciousness of public engagement as a core component of human rights, the Council launched the first activity of its program to strengthen citizen participation and electoral awareness, as well as to support the role of civil society organizations in election monitoring.

This initiative is implemented pursuant to the cooperation protocol between the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) and the National Election Authority (NEA).

Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the National Council for Human Rights, affirmed that the partnership between the Council and the NEA exemplifies a model of complementarity in the national human rights framework. She highlighted that civil society's participation in electoral monitoring positively reflects Egypt's democratic trajectory at the international level.

Counselor Hazem Badawy, President of the NEA, reiterated that cooperation with the NCHR aims to enhance societal capacities and empower citizens to exercise their electoral rights with awareness and responsibility. He noted that the Authority has implemented awareness programs targeting a wide range of groups, including school students, youth in public forums, and content creators on social media. He stressed that the right to political participation is an integral human right, without which the human rights framework remains incomplete.

Dr. Hany Ibrahim, Acting Secretary-General of NCHR, stated that the session represents a key step in implementing the Council’s strategic plan to promote citizenship and political rights. He added that the Council aims, through open and direct engagement with citizens, to entrench transparency and build trust in state institutions, while underlining the importance of continuous dialogue to achieve full awareness of individual rights and meaningful political participation.

The program activities reflect the Council’s ongoing commitment to human rights education and to boost the capacities of a generation that is fully aware of the importance of electoral participation as both a fundamental right and a national responsibility. This initiative reaffirms the Council’s resolve to operationalize its partnerships with national institutions and expand its field and awareness-raising efforts to reach all segments of society and strengthen the capacity for free and responsible political engagement.

The program was attended by representatives of the NEA, civil society organizations, public figures, and media professi
