NCHR Welcomes GANHRI’s SCA Decision to Maintain Its “A” Status

Cairo – 5 November 2025

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) welcomes the decision of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) to maintain the Council’s “A” status. This decision reflects international recognition of Egypt’s efforts to strengthen its human rights framework and to enhance the performance of its national institutions in line with the Paris Principles.

The NCHR affirmed that this outcome reflects the confidence of the international community in the Council’s independence, credibility, and effectiveness. It further underscores the Council’s sustained efforts to promote and protect civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, to examine and address complaints, and to carry out visits to places of detention and deprivation of liberty in accordance with its mandate. The Council also continues to strengthen its engagement with civil society organizations and to foster a culture of human rights at the national and regional levels, in line with the Paris Principles and relevant international standards.

The Council further noted that the Sub-Committee on Accreditation commended the steps taken by the NCHR in this regard, as well as its continued coordination with relevant state authorities to finalize the discussion of the proposed legislative amendments before Parliament by the end of the year. The Committee underlined that these steps represent a positive example of constructive institutional cooperation between the State and its national human rights body.

The NCHR expresses its deep appreciation to its partners across state institutions, Parliament, and civil society for their support and fruitful cooperation, which contributed to this important achievement. The Council reaffirms its commitment to continue working diligently to protect rights and freedoms in accordance with the Egyptian Constitution and the international conventions to which Egypt is party, as well as to follow up on the implementation of relevant SCA recommendations.

The maintenance of the NCHR’s “A” status constitutes an international acknowledgment of its independence and institutional progress, and stands as a national model of effective partnership between the State and society in advancing human rights reform and strengthening Egypt’s standing regionally and internationally in the field of human rights.
