As part of the high-level meetings held by the National Council for Human Rights' (NCHR) delegation with Commissioners of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the sidelines of the Commission’s 89th Ordinary Session in Dakar, Senegal, Mohamed Osman, NCHR Board Member, met with Commissioner Selma Sassi-Safer, the Special Rapporteur on Refugees, Asylum Seekers, Internally Displaced Persons and Migrants in Africa.
The meeting explored ways to strengthen communication and cooperation between the NCHR and the African Commission on issues of mutual interest, particularly migration and asylum. Discussions also addressed the challenges associated with hosting migrants and refugees in Egypt, national efforts in this regard, and NCHR's role in monitoring their conditions and promoting the protection of their rights.
Both sides underscored the importance of sustained coordination and information sharing on efforts to protect and promote the rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between national human rights institutions and African human rights mechanisms to address migration and asylum-related challenges across the continent.
